Events bring people together. From community celebrations and cultural festivals to sporting events and long‑standing local fixtures, events play a big role in how Murihiku Southland connects, celebrates and showcases what makes this place special.

Now, we’re taking time to refresh the Murihiku Southland Events Strategy, and we want to hear directly from the people who are part of our events community.

Why we’re refreshing the Events Strategy

The current Strategy has helped guide how events are supported and developed across the region. But as our communities, audiences and challenges continue to evolve, it’s important that the strategy reflects what’s happening on the ground right now.

This refresh is about:

  • Understanding what’s working well for events across Murihiku Southland
  • Identifying current gaps and challenges
  • Hearing where effort and support should be focused over the next five years

Your insight will help shape future priorities and decisions around events in the region.

Who we want to hear from

We want to hear from anyone involved in, supporting, or enjoying events across Murihiku Southland. That includes event organisers and volunteers, local businesses and sponsors, community groups, and the people who attend events throughout the year. Whether your involvement is hands‑on or you simply show up and take part, your experience and perspective are valuable.

How to get involved

As part of the Events Strategy Refresh, we’re inviting feedback through a short online survey. It only takes a few minutes to complete and is open until 14 May 2026. The feedback shared will directly inform the updated Murihiku Southland Events Strategy and help guide priorities and focus areas for the next five years. You can take the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/eventsGS

As a thank-you, you can enter the draw to win 1 of 3 $100 fuel vouchers at the end of the survey.

What happens next

All feedback will be reviewed and used to guide the next version of the Murihiku Southland Events Strategy. This work will help ensure future direction reflects community needs and supports a strong, sustainable events landscape across the region.

Thank you for taking the time to be part of this process. Your voice helps shape what comes next for events in Murihiku Southland.
