Opportunities to improve how data is accessed and shared became apparent during the process to develop the Beyond 2025 plan. There are not only gaps in data and therefore our knowledge, but there are also inconsistencies in how data is interpreted. Furthermore, some data is not easily accessed and there are wasted resources with multiple party duplication.
Great South has developed the Data Insights Southland Hub or DISH. This is an all-in-one data platform which provides vital economic, environmental, tourism and housing data, insights and reports and ensures multiple users can access a trusted source of information to guide decision making.
Great South also undertakes an annual audit of all 270+ commercial accommodation providers in the region. This is important in order to understand changes in the number and type of accommodation which could affect tourism, local communities and existing and new industries.
