Fiordland: Dark Sky Park opportunities

Great South is working on an application to the International Dark Sky Association for Fiordland National Park to become an International Dark Sky Park. 

If successful, this could attract visitors to Fiordland during the shoulder seasons and winter months when night sky viewing is at its best and protect the night sky for the benefit of the community and generations to come.

This month there are several opportunities to find out more:

Drop-in sessions

If you live in Fiordland and want to know more general information about what it will mean if Fiordland National Park becomes a Dark Sky Park drop in and see us at the Te Anau Library on Tuesday 27 September between 1.30 -1.30pm or 4.00 - 5.00pm.

Dark sky tourism opportunities

If you are interested in starting a dark sky tourism business, or adding a dark sky product to your existing business, we have two opportunities:

  • Dark sky tourism opportunities seminar: Tuesday 27 September 7pm - 9pm. RSVP by Wednesday 21 September. Email

  • One-on-one chats with a Great South staff member: Book in a timeslot on either Tuesday 27 September 2pm - 4pm or Wednesday 28 September 9am - 11am. Email to book your spot.
