Tourism Marketing Advisor

About Us

At Southland’s Regional Development Agency, Great South, we are focused on creating even better lives through sustainable development and showcasing the very best of Southland to the world.

Visit Southland and Visit Fiordland are the Regional Tourism Organisations responsible for marketing and promoting the Southland and Fiordland region, and we are on the lookout for a marketing superstar to join our energetic and passionate team.

Tourism Marketing Advisor (Fixed Term 18-24 months)

Our two Regional Tourism Organisations (RTO) require a qualified marketer or communications specialist who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is adaptable and motivated.

What will you do?

  • Campaign co-ordination and implementation
  • Content writing for Southland NZ & Fiordland Beyond Belief distribution channels including web, social media, and print.
  • Manage the development, delivery and monitoring of social media content and communications including interpreting basic digital data e.g Google Analytics, Facebook insights, media monitoring.
  • Assist with the management of the website.
  • Assist with the design and production of advertising collateral, eDMs and presentations.
  • Assist in organising photoshoots, talent and media itineraries for content creation and media visits.
  • Industry and stakeholder relationships.

What skills do you need?

  • A passion for tourism and a minimum of 2-years marketing experience.
  • A proven track record of implementing and co-ordinating digital marketing campaigns.
  • Excellent writing and literacy skills, with a passion for creating compelling and engaging content. A love of writing human interest pieces as well as general articles and listicles will be beneficial.
  • Communications/journalism and public relations experience – must be comfortable meeting and working with tourism operators, journalists and media.
  • A positive can-do attitude with an ability to prioritise your time, work autonomously and use your initiative to get things done.
  • You will be a great fit for our team if you have:
  • A knowledge and love of the Southland region.
  • An ability to work well as part of a team and not be afraid to share your ideas and provide critique across projects.
  • A willingness to pick up ad-hoc tasks to help the team meet tight deadlines.
  • A love of the outdoors, people and above all food, we do love discussing and eating food here.

Great South is seeking a superstar to join its Business Services team.

Great South delivers the services of the government’s Regional Business Partner Programme (RBP) for Southland, offering a ‘one-stop-shop’ supporting businesses to grow and innovate. 

Working with businesses at all stages, you will take a birds-eye view, connecting them with research and development funding, training opportunities, and business mentoring.

What skills do you require?

  • You are an excellent listener and communicator with quick ability to identify needs.
  • You are a skilled relationship builder.
  • You have a positive approach to all that you do.
  • You have a working knowledge of business and business practices.
  • You are organised and follow processes.

You will be a great fit for our team if you have:

  • A willingness to work closely, cohesively, and transparently with the Southland RBP team and local businesses.
  • A high level of business acumen across all aspects of business including strong strategic and operational perspectives.
  • Previous experience reading and interpreting financial statements would be preferable but is not essential.
