I don’t know what jobs I’ll have over summer
We don’t need to know exactly how many summer jobs you will have right now, just an estimate of your summer work force needs will be enough information at this stage.
How do I create a 90 second video?
All employers are required to have a short video that will be posted on the Summer of Work Website.
This is a simple way to show a snippet of who you are, what you do, the jobs available and why your workplace is a great option for summer work – it doesn’t need to be a Hollywood film production! Most videos from last year were filmed on mobile phones. Take a look at 2021 Summer of Work to get some ideas about what other business did: https://greatsouth.nz/summer-of-work
The Southland Youth Futures team are available to help in the filming and editing of your video. Please let us know if you would like us to assist. Videos are required to be submitted by 12 August 2022.
Where is the Job Fair and do I need to attend it?
The Job Fair is on Tuesday 20 September at the Invercargill Workingmen’s Club. You will be allocated a space, table, and chair(s), where your business can display promotional material and talk to visiting students.
The job fair will have a school session and a public session (intended for students and their parents).
This will be a great opportunity to promote your vacancy and meet job candidates face-to-face. Students will attend the event with their CVs and ready to apply.
Note: Employers from outside of Invercargill city and employers with only 1-2 vacancies are not required to attend the Job Fair, although they are welcome if they are able to!
How do I host the virtual meet and greet?
All employers will host a virtual meet and greet at an allocated time on Wednesday 21 September OR Thursday 22 September. These will last approximately 10-20 minutes. The online event is aimed at students who are unable to attend the job fair in person but it is open to all students.
Students will register for your virtual meet and greet through the Summer of Work website. During the meet and greet you will be able to give the students more information about your business, the roles available and the process for applying for a job.
Am I obligated to employ a student?
There is no obligation to employ a student. The Summer of Work event ends at the conclusion of the Job Fair. Any employment offers are made independent of the Summer of Work event.
Are the roles only for summer jobs?
Yes, initially at least. This event is promoted to school students who are currently studying. However, on occassion there may be opportunities to continue an employment relationship with permanent part time work, or possibly full-time work depending on individual circumstances. This would be between the employer and employee and is independent from the Summer of Work event.
